1925 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abu Hashim narrated to us; Ali ibn Yazid al-Sudaʾi narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn ʿAjlan narrated to us, from Bashir, who said: “I spent one night in the company of al-Rabiʿ. He rose to pray, and when he reached the verse, ‘Or do those who commit evil deeds imagine that We shall treat them like those who believe and do righteous deeds—equal in their life and in their death? How evil is the judgment they make’ (Surah al-Jathiyah, 45:21), he remained standing at it the whole night until dawn, unable to move past the verse, overwhelmed by intense weeping.”
