- ʿAbdullah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Hārūn ibn Maʿrūf narrated to us; Ḍamrah narrated to us, from Ibn Shawdhab, from Mālik ibn Dīnār, who said:
“The son of a certain man sought my help against the al-ʿashshārīn (toll collectors). I went to them, and they accepted my intercession. Then they said, ‘O Abū Yaḥyā, would you not make a supplication?’ They happened to have a jug with a leather seal on it, in which they kept their living expenses. I said, ‘Raise your hands.’ Then I tucked the jug under my arm and declared, ‘No, by Allah! Allah will not answer our prayer as long as this jug is with us.’”
