- ʿAbdullah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; ʿAbd al-Razzaq narrated to us; Ibn Sulayman informed us, saying: Malik and Muhammad ibn Wasiʿ were sitting together. Malik remarked, “There is nothing but obedience to Allah—or the Fire.” Muhammad ibn Wasiʿ replied, “I would not put it as you have; rather, it is nothing but Allah’s mercy—or the Fire.” Malik then said, “I bear witness that you are among Allah’s qurrāʾ (devout reciters)—may He be exalted.”
