1876 – ‘Abd Allāh narrated to us, my father narrated to us, Sayyār narrated to us, and Ja‘far narrated to us. He said: I heard Mālik—meaning Ibn Dīnār—whose voice was tinged with sorrow. He would place his head in his miḥrāb (prayer niche) and say, “O Lord of Mālik! You already know who will inhabit the Fire and who will inhabit the Garden—so which of the two is Mālik?” Then he would weep.
