1868 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: ʿAli ibn Muslim narrated to me; Sayyār narrated to us; Jaʿfar narrated to us; Malik narrated to us, from al-Hasan—linking the report back (marfūʿ)—who said: “When Allah created the intellect, He said to it, ‘Advance!’ Then He said to it, ‘Withdraw!’ so it withdrew. He then said, ‘I have created no creature dearer to Me than you; through you I withhold, and through you I bestow.’”
