1862 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Sayyār narrated to us; Jaʿfar narrated to us. He said: I heard Mālik ibn Dīnār, and it was said to him, “O Abū Yaḥyā, if you would only soften your speech, your visitors and companions would increase.” He replied, “Should I cut off my table? Should my livelihood be broken? Those youngsters—may Allah never bring them!”
