1861 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Sayyār narrated to us; Jaʿfar narrated to us. He said: I heard Mālik ibn Dīnār say:
“O bearers of the Quran, what has the Quran planted in your hearts? The Quran is the springtime of the believers, just as ⦗259⦘ rain is the springtime of the earth. A shower may fall from the sky and strike a dung-heap where a single grain is buried, yet the stench of its place does not prevent that grain from stirring, turning green, and becoming beautiful there. O bearers of the Quran, what has the Quran sown in your hearts? Where are those devoted to a single surah? Where are those devoted to two surahs? What have you done with them?”
