Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

1859 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Sayyār ibn Ḥātim al-ʿAnazī, Abū Salamah, narrated to us; Jaʿfar narrated to us. He said: I heard Mālik ibn Dīnār recite the verse, “Had We sent down this Quran upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and torn apart out of reverence for Allah” (Surah al-Ḥashr 59:21). He then wept and said, “I swear to you: no servant truly believes in this Quran without his heart being rent asunder by it.”
