1857 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; ʿAli ibn Muslim narrated to me; Sayyār narrated to us; Jaʿfar said:
I visited Farqad al-Sabkhi when he was an elderly shaykh. In front of him was some very sharp vinegar, and he would speak with a mouthful still in his mouth before swallowing. I asked, “Why are you doing this, Abū Yaʿqūb?” He replied, “So that it will cut off from me the urge for nikāḥ (sexual intercourse).”
