1850 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abu Hafs—namely ʿAmr ibn ʿAli—narrated to me; Abu Dawud narrated to us; and Abu Khaldah narrated to us. He said: I asked Abu al-Sawwar about reciting behind the imam, saying, “Should I recite behind him?” He answered, “sabbiḥ wa kabbir—occupy yourself with tasbih (uttering ‘Subhana Allah’) and with the takbir (saying ‘Allahu Akbar’).”
