1842 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Muhammad ibn Musʿab—who is al-Qurqusānī—narrated to us. He said: I heard Makhlad ibn Husayn recount that a man once asked for water at the house of Abū al-Sawwār al-ʿAdawī. His wife responded, “There is not a single drop in the cistern—indeed, we have no water at all.” So Abū al-Sawwār went, took the ʿukka (the small leather bucket) from the cistern, or whatever lay at its bottom, returned, poured it over her head, and said, “O Mother of disgraceful deeds, how many drops were in here?”
