1824 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; ʿAffan narrated to us; Jaʿfar ibn Sulayman narrated, saying: Some of our companions reported that Muwarriq al-ʿIjli used to trade and would earn money, yet no Friday passed while he still retained any of it. He would meet a brother and hand him four hundred, five hundred, or three hundred, saying, “Keep this with you for us until we need it.” Later he would encounter the man and say, “It is yours—deal with it as you wish.” The other would reply, “I have no need of it,” whereupon he would say, “By Allah, we will never take it back, so it is entirely yours; do with it as you please.”
