1822 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Harun ibn ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Sayyar narrated to us; ʿUbayd Allah ibn Abi Shumayt narrated to us, from his father, who said:
“Abu Muslim al-Khawlani would walk about mourning the state of Islam. News of this reached Muʿawiyah, so he sent for him and summoned him. Muʿawiyah asked, ‘What is your name?’
He replied, ‘Muʿawiyah.’
Abu Muslim then said, ‘You are nothing but a passing tale, a man who will soon be in his grave. Whatever good or evil you do, O Muʿawiyah, you will be repaid for it. Even if you were just to all the people on earth and then wronged a single man, that one act of injustice would tip the scales against all your justice.’”
