1802 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said, “I read this to my father.” ʿAffan narrated to us; Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from ʿAtaʾ ibn al-Saʾib, from Abu al-Ahwas and Abu al-Bakhtari, that Ibn Masʿud said:
“Learn the Quran and recite it, for you are granted ten rewards for every letter it contains. I am not saying that the expression Alif Lam Mim brings ten; rather, the alif brings ten, the lam ten, and the mim ten.”
١٨٠٢ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ، وَأَبِي الْبَخْتَرِيِّ أَنَّ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ: «تَعَلَّمُوا الْقُرْآنَ وَاتْلُوهُ فَإِنَّكُمْ تُؤْجَرُونَ بِكُلِّ اسْمٍ فِيهِ عَشْرًا أَمَا إِنِّي لَا أَقُولُ بِأَلِفٍ لَامٍ مِيمٍ عَشْرًا وَلَكِنْ بِالْأَلِفِ عَشْرًا وَبِاللَّامِ عَشْرًا وَبِالْمِيمِ عَشْرًا»
