Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

1797 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: “I read these aḥādīth to my father, he endorsed them and said, ‘Transmit them on my authority.’”

Muhammad ibn ʿUbayd narrated to us; Hārūn—meaning al-Barbarī—narrated to us, from ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿAbd, who said:

A man arrived after the death of ʿĀʾishah, and ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr asked him, “How did you find the people’s grief over her?”

He replied, “By Allah, their sorrow was not that intense.”

ʿUbayd ibn ʿUmayr then remarked, “Only the one for whom ʿĀʾishah was a mother truly grieves for her.”
