1795 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us and said, “I found in my father’s notebook that Abū Muʿāwiyah al-Ghalābī narrated to us: Ṣāliḥ al-Murrī once came to ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Ḥasan to console him over his mother and said, ‘If this calamity has stirred within you an admonition for your own soul, then it is a blessing upon you; otherwise, know that the calamity afflicting your soul is the greater one.’”
