1788 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Ibrahim ibn Habib ibn al-Shahid narrated to us, from Hisham: Anas ibn Malik stipulated in his will that Ibn Sirin should perform his ritual washing. When Anas died, someone came to Muhammad and informed him of this. He replied, “I am confined in prison.” They said, “We have already sought the emir’s permission, and he has granted it to you.” He answered, “It was not the emir who confined me; rather, it is the man who holds a claim against me.” They then went to that claimant, who gave his consent. Muhammad thereupon came out, washed Anas, shrouded him in five pieces of cloth—one of them a turban—and anointed him with musk from the crown of his head to his feet.
