Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

1759 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us. He said, “I found the following in my father’s notebook: Abū Muʿāwiyah al-Ghalābī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us, from Abū Khayrah, who said:

“We entered to visit Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allah while he was ill. We happened to arrive when he had gone out to attend to a personal need, so we sat down in the room. He was then brought to us, supported between two men. After giving the greeting of peace, he looked at our faces and said, ‘May Allah have mercy on a servant who, when granted strength, employs it in obedience to Allah, or, when restrained by weakness, refrains from the things Allah has forbidden—Exalted is He.’”
