1729 – ʿAbdullah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Maʿmar ibn Sulaymān al-Raqqī narrated to us; Furāt ibn Sulaymān narrated, from Maymūn ibn Mihrān, that ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz once said to his father:
“Father, what holds you back from carrying out the justice you aim for? By Allah, I would not mind even if the pots boiled with you and me inside them for the sake of that!”
He replied, “My son, I am training the people the way one tames a skittish mount. I do not wish to revive a matter of justice and then postpone it until some worldly craving creeps in alongside it, whereby they would recoil from the justice and settle for the desire.”
