1724 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Wahb narrated to us; my father narrated, saying: I heard al-Mughīrah ibn Ḥakīm say: Fāṭimah bint ʿAbd al-Malik, the wife of ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, said, “O Mughīrah, I know that there may be people who pray and fast more than ʿUmar, but as for anyone whose fear of his Lord—Exalted is He—is greater than ʿUmar’s, I have never seen him. After performing the late ʿIshāʾ prayer, he would throw himself down in his mosque, supplicating and weeping until sleep overcame him. Then he would wake, supplicate, and weep until sleep overtook him again, and he remained like that until dawn.”
