1692 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; al-Hasan narrated to us; Ayyub ibn Suwayd narrated, on the authority of al-Awzaʿi, who said: “None of ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAziz’s governors resembled him except ʿAmr ibn ʿUbayd ibn Talhah al-Ansari. He was his governor over ʿUman, and his forbearance reached such a point that when a man who had incurred one of the hudud (the prescribed penalties of Allah—Exalted is He) was brought to him after the ʿIshaʾ prayer, he said, ‘I dislike postponing the hudud of Allah until morning,’ and so he carried it out upon him that very night.”
