1683 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Hārūn ibn Maʿrūf narrated to us; Ḍamrah narrated to us, from ʿAlī ibn Abī Ḥamalah, from Abū al-ʿAbbās, who said:
“I was in the courtyard of Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem) with Khālid ibn Yazīd ibn Muʿāwiyah when a young man approached, offered salām to Khālid, and Khālid returned his greeting. The youth then asked Khālid, ‘Is there an eye watching us?’ Before Khālid could answer, I spoke up and said, ‘Yes—over both of you is the all-hearing, all-seeing Eye of Allah, exalted is He.’ The young man’s expression changed; he withdrew his hand from Khālid’s and walked away. I asked Khālid, ‘Who was that?’ He replied, ‘That was ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, the son of my brother, the Commander of the Believers. If you and he live long enough, you will certainly see him as a leader of guidance.’”
