1680 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Hārūn ibn Maʿrūf narrated to us; Damrah narrated to us, from Ibn Shawdhab, who said:
A woman from the Mahāliba tribe once visited Fāṭimah, the wife of ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz. When she saw her and noticed her plain appearance, she exclaimed, “You are the wife of the Commander of the Believers—will you not adorn yourself for him?” After she repeated the question several times, Fāṭimah replied, “Does a woman beautify herself for her husband with anything other than what he likes?” The visitor answered, “Yes.” Fāṭimah said, “Then this—exactly as you see—is what he prefers from me.”
