1673 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Hāshim ibn al-Qāsim narrated to us; Abū Saʿīd narrated to us; Mālik ibn Mighwal narrated, from Muʿāwiyah ibn Qurrah: He once sat with a man from among the Followers, and the two began to reflect together. One of them remarked, “I have no hope, but I do fear.” The other replied, “Whoever hopes for something strives for it, and whoever fears something flees from it. I cannot conceive of a person who claims to hope for something yet does not pursue it, nor of one who claims to fear something yet does not run away from it.”
