1671 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Abū Muʿāwiyah al-ʿAlāʾī narrated to us; Abū ʿAlī al-Kilābī narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Zayd narrated:

He said, “I asked al-Ḥasan: ‘O Abū Saʿīd, tell me about a man who did not take part in the uprising of Ibn al-Muhallab; he merely kept silent with his tongue yet was content with it in his heart.’

Al-Ḥasan replied, ‘My nephew, how many hands hamstrung the she-camel?’

I answered, ‘One hand.’

He said, ‘Yet did not the whole people perish because of their approval and their mutual collusion?’”
