170 – ʿAbd Allāh reported to us; my father reported to us; Wakīʿ reported to us, from Ibn Abī Khālid, from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim, who said:
I heard Saʿd (may Allah be pleased with him) say, “I am the first Arab ever to let fly an arrow in the cause of Allah. I still recall how we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and had nothing to eat but the leaves of the samur tree and the leaves of the ḥublah plant, until one of us would relieve himself like a goat—dry pellets with no softness at all.”
