168 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Hudbah ibn Khālid narrated to us; Hammām narrated to us; Qatādah narrated to us, from Muṭarrif, from his father, who said:
He reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while the Prophet was explaining the verse, “Rivalry for increase distracts you” (Qur’an 102:1). The Prophet said, “The son of Adam keeps saying, ‘My wealth! My wealth!’ Yet, O son of Adam, do you actually possess of your wealth anything other than what you have eaten and consumed, what you have worn and worn out, or what you have given in charity and sent ahead?”
