1607 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Muḥammad ibn Fuḍayl narrated to us, from ʿĀṣim, who said:
“I never heard al-Ḥasan quote poetry before this occasion. In the khafīf meter he recited:
laysa man māta fa-staraāḥa bi-mayyit,
innamā al-mayyitu mayyitu al-aḥyā’
(Whoever dies and finds relief is not necessarily truly dead; the truly dead is the one dead among the living.)
Then he would say, ‘He has spoken the truth, by Allah! A person may have a living body yet a dead heart.’”
