1583 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father related to me; Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us; Hishām narrated to us, on the authority of al-Ḥasan, who said: “Whenever his allowance was disbursed, he would scoop it out in handfuls, giving to the family of so-and-so and the family of so-and-so, until his son would say to him, ‘You have dependants of your own!’—whereupon he would toss to him whatever was left.”
