1575 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: I was informed by Sayyar. Jaʿfar narrated to us; Talib narrated: One day, when Yazid al-Dabbi had finished delivering his narrative sermon, he saw me and said, “How are you this morning, O ʿAbd Allah? Why do I see you downcast?” I replied, “Because of a debt that is upon me.” He asked, “How much is it?” I answered, “Fifty dirhams.” He said, “I praise my Lord on your behalf; had your brother possessed that amount, he would have paid it off for you.” Then he added, “And you grieve over fifty when I owe two thousand dirhams with no prospect of repayment!” Someone remarked to him, “O Abu Mawdud, perhaps that will prove to be good for you.” He asked, “And how is that?” I replied, “It will make your sorrow and your pleading before Allah more intense.” He said, “In that case, I am hopeful.” Yazid later died, and his debt was settled after his death.
