1572 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: I was informed by Sayyar; al-Harith ibn Nabhan narrated to us, saying: I heard Muhammad ibn Wasiʿ exclaim, “Alas, my companions! My companions have passed away.” I said to him, “May Allah have mercy on you! Have not young men arisen who recite the Quran, stand in night prayer, fast by day, perform the pilgrimage, and study?” He spat and replied, “Self-admiration has corrupted them.”
