1561 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; al-Haytham narrated, saying: I heard my father relate that al-Hasan once said to his companions:

“O child of Adam, how much longer will it be: ‘O family, bring me my breakfast! O family, bring me my supper!’? By Allah, before long they will be carrying you out in the morning, and by Allah, before long they will be bearing you away in the evening. Your life is nothing but eating and gulping, one foolish condition after another. In reality you are only hoarding your wealth so that a woman may take it to her husband, or a man may take it to his wife. If, despite that, you wish to be the one who ends up with the poorest share among the three, then go ahead.”
