161 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Bahz narrated to us; Sulaymān ibn al-Mughīrah and Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUlayyah both narrated, saying: Sulaymān told me, from Ḥumayd ibn Hilāl, who said: ʿĀ’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:

“Abu Bakr sent us a sheep’s fore-leg one night. I held it steady while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ cut it”—or she said, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ held it and I cut it.”

(The transmitter who related this added, “There was no lamp on.”)

ʿĀ’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) also said, “A full month would pass over the household of Muhammad ﷺ during which they neither baked bread nor cooked a pot of food.”

Ḥumayd added, “I mentioned this to Ṣafwān ibn Muḥammad, and he said, ‘No—rather, two months!’”
