1554 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Ṣamad and Rūḥ both narrated to us, saying: al-Aswad ibn Shaybān narrated to us; al-Faḍl narrated to me; Rūḥ ibn Thawr narrated to us, who said:

I said to al-Ḥasan, “There are two men: one pursues the worldly life by lawful means, attains it, uses it to maintain the bonds of kinship, and sends part of it ahead for his own benefit, while the other keeps away from the world.”

He replied, “The one I love more is the one who keeps away from the world.”

I said, “Abū Saʿīd, he sought it lawfully, obtained it, upheld his kinship ties with it, and sent part of it ahead for himself!”

He said, “The one I love more is the one who keeps away from the world.”
