1545 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; and Ibn Mahdi—meaning, he too narrated to me—from Abu al-Ashhab, from al-Hasan, who said: “And it is He who has made the night and the day succeed one another for whoever wishes to take heed or wishes to give thanks.” (Quran 25:62)
He then said: “Whoever falls short at night has in the day an opportunity to make amends, and whoever falls short in the day has in the night an opportunity to make amends. A servant remains in a good state so long as, whenever he speaks, he speaks for Allah, and whenever he acts, he acts for Allah—Exalted is He.”
