Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

1522 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; al-Hasan ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAziz al-Misri narrated to us; Ayyub ibn Suwayd al-Ramli narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Yazid ibn Jabir narrated to us, from his brother Yazid, who said:

“I met Wahb ibn Munabbih during the mawsim (pilgrimage season). He said to me, ‘Are you acquainted with al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Hasan?’ I replied, ‘Yes.’ He asked, ‘Have you ever noticed anything ⦗218⦘ deficient in his intellect?’ I said, ‘No.’ Wahb then remarked, ‘We are told—or, he said, we find in the earlier books—that whenever a servant is granted knowledge and then walks with it upon a path of guidance, Allah will never take away his reason.’”
