Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

1516 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Yusuf ibn Yaʿqub, Abu Yaʿqub al-Saffar, the client of Banu Umayyah, narrated to us; Abu Usamah narrated to us; from Sufyan; from ʿImran al-Qasir, who said:
A man came to al-Hasan and asked him about certain matters, and he answered him. The man then said, “O Abu Saʿid, the jurists say such-and-such.” Al-Hasan replied, “Have you ever seen a true jurist with your own eyes? A jurist, in reality, is one who is detached from the world, eager for the Hereafter, conscious of his own sin, and constant in the worship of his Lord.”
