1513 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abu ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Hamdani related to me; Muhammad ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Numayr narrated to us; Ibn Yaman narrated to us; from Sufyan; from ʿImran al-Qasir who said: I heard al-Hasan, and a man asked him, saying, “I once questioned a faqīh (jurist), and he answered…” Al-Hasan replied, “Have you ever even seen a faqīh, may you lose your father! The faqīh is only the zāhid (ascetic) with regard to the dunyā (worldly life), one who clearly recognizes his own sin, and who persists in worshiping his Lord.”
