155 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Hushaym narrated to us, from Manṣūr, from al-Ḥasan, who said:
“When Salmān (may Allah be pleased with him) was on his deathbed he began to weep. Someone asked him, ‘What makes you cry when you are a Companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?’
He replied, ‘I do not weep out of sorrow for this world, nor out of desire for it. Rather, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entrusted us with a covenant that we have not kept: he charged us that the provision of any one of us should be no more than the supplies of a traveller.’”
He continued, “They then examined what he had left behind, and found that its total value was only a little over twenty dirhams—or, according to another report, a little over thirty.”
