1495 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Hārūn ibn Maʿrūf narrated to us; Ḍamrah narrated to us, from Ibn Shawdhub, who said:
Al-Hasan and Farqad al-Sinjī were once at a banquet, seated at the table with a man known for his large appetite. The rest of the guests withdrew their hands ⦗215⦘ while the man went on eating. Farqad said to him, “O so-and-so, one condition after another—yet no deed!” Al-Hasan became angry, turned toward him and said, “What is wrong with you—may Allah deal with you! Will you not let the man eat? I have been told you say, ‘I wish ashes were our staple.’ May Allah make them your staple!”
