Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal
  1. ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; ʿUbayd Allah ibn Thawr narrated to us; my mother narrated to me, from her aunt al-ʿAynāʾ, who said:

“Abu al-Khallal would climb to the upper floor of a room. He would walk to one of its doors, lean over the side that overlooked ⦗209⦘ the neighborhood, and call out, ‘So-and-so!’ Then he would face the second side and call, ‘So-and-so! So-and-so!’ Next he would turn to the third side and repeat the same words, continuing until he had covered all four corners.

After that he would recite, ‘Can you feel the presence of any one of them, or hear so much as a whisper?’ (Q 19:98), and then he would turn to his prayer. He did this on the very day he died, at the age of one hundred and twenty years.”
