148 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Wakiʿ narrated to us—and Zāʾidah concurred; al-Aʿmash narrated to us, from Sulaymān ibn Mushir, from Khurashah ibn al-Ḥurr, from Abū Dharr—may Allah be pleased with him—who said:

The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said to me, “O Abū Dharr, look for the man of highest standing in the mosque.” I looked and saw a man wearing a fine cloak, so I said, “This one?” He then said, “Look for the man of lowest standing in the mosque.” I looked again and saw a man dressed in worn-out clothes, so I said, “This one?” The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—replied, “That man is more esteemed by Allah on the Day of Resurrection than the whole earth filled with the likes of that one.”
