1429 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Wahb ibn Jarir narrated to us; my father said: I heard Humayd ibn Hilal relating from al-ʿAlaʾ ibn Ziyad, who said:
“I saw people in a dream chasing after something, so I joined them. Suddenly, I found myself before a huge, dark, one-eyed old woman, draped in every sort of garment and adornment. I asked, ‘What are you?’ She replied, ‘I am the dunya (the worldly life).’ I said, ‘I ask Allah to make you hateful to me.’ She said, ‘Yes—if you come to hate the dirham.’”
