1426 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Rawḥ narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Qatadah, from al-ʿAlāʾ ibn Ziyād:
A certain man used to perform his deeds for show. He would roll up his clothes and raise his voice whenever he recited, and he never passed by anyone without reviling and cursing him. Then Allah provided him with something after that, whereupon he lowered his voice and kept his prayer between himself and his Lord—Exalted is He—so that thereafter he would not pass by anyone without praying for his welfare and invoking blessings upon him.
