1415 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Hārūn ibn Maʿrūf narrated to us; Ḍamrah narrated to us, from ʿAlī ibn Abī Ḥamalah, who said:
Ibn Abī Idrīs ʿĀʾidh Allah once said to his father, “My father, does the prolonged silence of Abū ʿAbd Allah—meaning Muslim ibn Yasār—not amaze you?” He replied, “My dear son, speaking the truth is better than remaining silent about it.”
So Ibn Abī Idrīs went to Muslim and said, “O Abū ʿAbd Allah, I told my father: ‘Does the prolonged silence of Abū ʿAbd Allah not amaze you?’ and he answered, ‘My dear son, speaking the truth is better than remaining silent about it.’” Muslim responded, “Keeping silent about falsehood is better than speaking it.”
