Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

1412 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Ahmad ibn Ibrahim narrated to me; Abu Dawud narrated to us; al-Rabiʿ ibn Subayh narrated to us; Makhul said:

“I saw one of your eminent men enter the Kaʿbah. I asked, ‘Who is he?’ and was told, ‘Muslim ibn Yasar.’ I said, ‘I shall watch what he does.’

“I saw him stand by the corner, then step forward to face the marble panel and pray in the most beautiful manner. After finishing, he went into prostration, and I could make out nothing of his words except that he kept saying in his prostration: ‘Forgive me my sin and whatever my hands have sent before me.’ He then wept until the marble was soaked with his tears.”
