1397 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Ahmad ibn Ibrahim narrated to us; Ibn Habib—meaning Ibn al-Shahid—narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Hamid ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn Muslim ibn Yasar narrated to us, from Ishaq ibn Suwayd, who said:
“I accompanied Muslim ibn Yasar for a whole year on the journey to Mecca, and I did not hear him utter a single word until we reached Dhat ʿIrq. Then we spoke, and he said:
‘It has reached me that a servant will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and placed before Allah—glorified is He. He will say, “Look into his good deeds.” They will look into his good deeds but none will be found. Then He will say, “Look into his bad deeds,” and many sins will be found, so he will be ordered to the Fire. As he turns away, He will say, “Bring him back to Me. Why are you turning away?” The man will answer, “My Lord, this was not what I had thought—or hoped.” (Ibrahim was unsure which of the two words was used.) Allah will say, “You have spoken the truth,” and he will be ordered to Paradise.’ ”
