144 – ʿAbdallāh narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Ibrāhīm ibn Khālid narrated to us; Rabāḥ ibn Yazīd narrated to us; Abū al-Jarrāḥ narrated to me, from one of their companions, a man named Khāzim:
The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—was visited by Gabriel (peace be upon him) while a man in his company was weeping. Gabriel asked, “Who is this?” He replied, “So-and-so.” Gabriel then said, “We weigh all the deeds of the children of Adam except for tears; for by a single tear Allah extinguishes oceans of the Hellfire.”
