- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abū Mūsā Muḥammad ibn al-Muthannā al-ʿAnazī narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Quddūs ibn Abī al-Ḥawārī narrated to me; Saʿīd ibn Yazīd narrated to me. He said: “ʿAbd Allah ibn Ghālib was killed, and when he was laid in his grave and the soil was leveled over him, we noticed that the earth above his grave gave off a scent more pleasant than any perfume. Ibn Ghālib, for his part, would scarcely speak except to say: subḥān Allah (Glory be to Allah), al-ḥamdu lillāh (praise be to Allah), lā ilāha illā Allah (there is no deity but Allah), Allahu akbar (Allah is the Greatest), wa ṣallā Allahu ʿalā sayyidinā Muḥammad (and may Allah bless our master Muhammad). Should he be asked about something, he would reply and then return to these words.”}
