1383. ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Rawḥ ibn ʿAbd al-Muʾmin, Abū al-Ḥasan the Qurʾān-reciter, narrated to us; Ghiyāth ibn al-Muthannā al-Qushayrī narrated to us; Bahz ibn Ḥakīm ibn Muʿāwiyah ibn Ḥaydah ibn Muʿāwiyah ibn Qushayr said:

Zurara ibn Awfā al-Qurashī led us in prayer at the Great Mosque of the Banū Qushayr. When he reached the verse, “So when the trumpet is blown” (74:8), he collapsed and died. We carried him to his house, and I was among those who bore him there. Bahz went on to say, “He used to preach in his own home; when al-Ḥajjāj arrived in Basra, he was still delivering his lessons there.”
